Shamanic, Ecstatic

Notes made while reading “A Deed Without a Name” by Lee Morgan.

An ‘ecstatic’ is a type of mystic who  leaves or transcends the flesh in powerful visions and has congress with another world. But a ‘shaman’ is one who uses this ability to perform a service for  their community.

Traditional witches perform latter function.

See ecstatic vision as growing out of biological experience “as a plant does from soil.” Sensual experience used to reach trance: drumming, dance, sex, imbibing, etc.

As above, so below = Upperworld in heads, Underworld in guts, and thus joined to cosmos.
